Teacher Apprenticeship

Teaching dance will enhance your own dancing skills by reinforcing and deepening your understanding of the fundamentals that underpin WCS.

When you teach, you must break down movements into their basic components to be able to explain and demonstrate each element clearly. This process solidifies your own understanding as you must be able to articulate what you are doing and why. Teaching forces you to revisit and perfect foundational skills that you might otherwise take for granted.

As a Swing Bandits Teacher Apprentice, you will attend training session(s) where you will learn essential skills to help you teach WCS. Then, you will be paired with an experienced teacher and assist them in teaching the beginner class. Your role will vary depending on your skill and comfort level. For example, you may participate in the class rotation, provide feedback, demonstrate patterns, and explain techniques.

DJ Apprenticeship

Being a DJ provides you with a unique connection to your community through music. A DJ sets the tone for the event and enhances the energy and enjoyment of their audience. Watching dancers respond positively to a well-chosen track can be immensely satisfying. As a DJ, you have a direct impact on the atmosphere and each dancer’s experience of an event. Your role is not only to play music but to create memorable moments in an enjoyable environment.

DJing is more than playing your favourite songs or hitting “play” on your favourite playlist. A good DJ selects songs in response to what is happening on the dance floor in the moment. Each night is different! A good DJ creates a flow that will keep their audience dancing all night.

As a Swing Bandits DJ Apprentice, you will attend training session(s) where you will learn essential skills to help you DJ. Then, you will be paired with an experienced DJ and assist them with DJing a dance party. Your role will vary depending on your skill and comfort level. For example, you may simply sit and learn how an experienced DJ selects the next song, or you may try your hand at selecting a few songs at a time or, maybe you are ready to DJ for half an hour with live feedback from an experienced DJ.
