7:00pm · Intermediate class

For seasoned dancers ready for what’s past the basics.

The topic and the teacher change every month, so check Facebook and Instagram to see who’s teaching what.

Not your usual “intermediate” class. Expect to be challenged and introduced to concepts you may not master your first time around.

This class is for you if you’ve been dancing WCS for a while and can consistently execute basic patterns (pushes, passes, whips, double turns, extensions).

7:45pm · Intro to WCS

Brand new? Start here!

A few patterns and the basic concepts that get you moving on the dance floor. For total newcomers, dancers learning the opposite role, or anyone who wants to revisit the fundamentals.

8:30pm · Dance party

No partner needed. Everyone dances with everyone!

No need to bring a partner (though you can). Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just starting out, the party is a relaxed and friendly place to practice, meet new friends, and reconnect with familiar faces.

The dance

What is West Coast Swing?

A smooth, improvised partner dance, danced in a narrow lane called the slot, to music you already like.

West coast swing (WCS) is modern partner dance that evolved from several different dance styles including lindy hop. Unlike lindy hop, which is known for its energetic and bouncy movements, WCS is known for its distinctive “slotted” movement where partners move back and forth along a linear path creating this iconic smooth and elastic style.

WCS is danced to almost any kind of music including pop, R&B, hip hop, blues, country, etc. This versatility allows dancers to express themselves creatively while interpreting the music in real time. WCS’s emphasis on connection and improvisation fosters a strong partnership and encourages a playful and interactive experience that can change with every song and every partner.

The combination of technical precision, musicality, and personal expression makes WCS a dynamic and engaging dance style that continues to evolve.

This video was compiled by a group in Barcelona to showcase professional dancers from all around the world dancing to a wide variety of musical genres.
This video shows dancers doing WCS in a few different venues both indoors and outdoors. So fun!
